Weight Loss Challenge

So, I have decided to challenge myself to lose 30 lbs. in 30 days. I have been wanting to lose weight for as long as I can remember now and figure the weight is not just going to come off by itself. So, today starts healthier eating, smaller portions, and actually using the gym equipment that is in my parents garage at least 5 times a week. I say at least, cause hopefully once I get into it and the scale starts talking positively to me, I will want to do it every day. I haven't figured out the logistics yet (I will not be putting my weight out there for all the world to see), but I am going to have someone weigh me in and I will put how much I am down every 3rd day or so. Again, still working out the logistics as the idea just came to me last night. That's all for now. Wish me luck!

  1. Hey Melissa! This is Matt's wife Lisa :) I have been reading your blog and came across your new goal. Thought I might have some good tips for you, take them or leave them :) I lost 30 pounds this year and this is what helped me: number one thing is have a support system. Matt went on a weight loss journey with me and having someone else to confide in who is going through it with you keeps you on track. There is also a really good website, realage.com, which has a community of people trying to loose weight. There are some really great tips and info on that site, as well as a tool that keeps track of your weight loss and waist loss, quizes, meal planners, awesome site! Second thing is to make small changes and these will have a big affect. By concentrating on small changes everyday (getting salad dressing on the side, cutting out sugary drinks, eating whole wheat bread instead of white, etc.) and not stressing about the big goals (I have to lose x amount of weight by this time, etc.) you will be amazed at how easily the weight comes off. It is a mistake to set the goal as 30 pounds in thirty days, oh trust me!, it will just stress you out and make you feel dissappointed if you don't meet it. Let things happen naturally and in time. The biggest thing that helped me tho, I chose to make healthy choices for myself because I chose to love myself and my body, not because I wanted to fit into a pair of jeans. It's so much easier to give up if the goal is superficial but when you are making healthy choices because you want to treat your body with respect and be healthy for yourself and your family it's just not so easy to look back on that. I truly believe that is the only way to have sustainable weight loss. Lastly, don't deny yourself! It's not all or nothing! If you want to have something, you can and should have it. You just have to watch portion control and not cheat all the time, but if you deny yourself you are going to feel deprived and you will binge. This is Lisa's four easy steps to weight loss! Hope it helped and let me know how you're doing :)
